The entry of the Apple iPhone Duo into the foldable smartphone market has brought significant excitement, but as with any new device, potential users are eager to understand its real-world performance. While the folding design offers unique utility, it inherently presents trade-offs, particularly regarding battery longevity compared to traditional flagship handsets like the iPhone 18 Pro Max.

Putting the iPhone Duo to the Test

To provide accurate, real-world data, our team conducted a rigorous, custom battery test designed to simulate a heavy day of usage. We evaluated the iPhone Duo against key competitors, including the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Fold 8 Ultra, as well as the Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold and the Motorola Razr Fold. During the testing process, all devices were subjected to the same standardized conditions—continuously browsing the web over a 5G connection with screen brightness locked at 150 nits.

Key Findings

The iPhone Duo recorded a respectable 13 hours and 20 minutes of battery life. While this is impressive for a foldable device, it trails behind the iPhone 18 Pro Max, which achieved 17 hours and 31 minutes. This disparity is expected, given that the 18 Pro Max benefits from a larger battery capacity (an extra 684 mAh) and the absence of complex folding screen power requirements.

How It Compares to Foldable Rivals

The comparison with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 is particularly noteworthy. Despite only an 83 mAh difference in battery size, the iPhone Duo managed to last over three hours longer than the Z Fold 8 in our current testing. This indicates that Apple's focus on power efficiency and software optimization is yielding tangible benefits. Conversely, the high-capacity 6,000 mAh battery of the Motorola Razr Fold helped it outlast the Duo, clocking in at 14 hours and 44 minutes.

Charging Performance

Beyond sheer endurance, charging speed remains a critical factor for users. The iPhone Duo supports 60W charging. In our tests, it recovered 42% battery in 15 minutes and 66% in 30 minutes. While slightly slower than the iPhone 18 Pro Max in initial bursts, it remains competitive within the foldable segment, notably outperforming the Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold, which is limited to 30W charging.

The Bottom Line

The iPhone Duo may not dethrone the iPhone 18 Pro Max as the battery life champion, but it establishes a strong foothold in the foldable market. It provides enough power to get most users through a standard day, proving that while foldables are inherently power-hungry, Apple has successfully mitigated the typical battery anxieties associated with this form factor.
