Nintendo Switch Sports Resort brings the series’ iconic motion-fueled gameplay to the Switch 2 with polished visuals, a couple of new sports, and the triumphant return of fan-favorites like golf and bowling. Instead of reinventing the wheel, this tropical-themed entry builds on the groundwork laid by 2022’s Nintendo Switch Sports, introducing crisp 4K graphics, deeper progression systems, and enhanced motion controls.

Seeing Wuhu Island with New Eyes

Although Switch Sports on the original hardware was a visual leap, taking in the revamped Wuhu Island on Switch 2 in crisp 4K at a steady 60 fps is even more impressive. Character models feature smoother edges, and courses look remarkably clean thanks to advanced anti-aliasing. Even as a veteran player returning to familiar grounds, the vibrant scenery makes it feel like an entirely new tropical getaway.

Exploring by Air, Land, and Sea

In addition to updated classics, Nintendo has introduced new ways to traverse Wuhu Island. You can fly around in a prop plane to collect photographs of key landmarks, ride a jet ski in Power Cruising, or take to the streets on a skateboard using the Joy-Con 2 in mouse mode. These modes provide a fantastic break from traditional competitive sports.

Sharper Slices, Tighter Controls

The new Joy-Con 2 controllers elevate the overall experience with significantly more responsive motion tracking. Whether you are executing quick wrist flicks in Table Tennis or timing swings on the golf course, the accuracy offers a noticeable upgrade over previous iterations.

Chasing the Island Crown and Local Parties

Addressing previous criticisms regarding single-player incentives, the new Island Crown mode offers a robust progression path. Players can battle through CPU opponents across nine different sports to face legendary Island Champions like Matt. Additionally, local co-op supports up to four players using either new or legacy Joy-Cons, making game nights more accessible than ever.

Verdict

Nintendo Switch Sports Resort is a triumphant return to form for motion-based gaming. While a larger initial sport selection would have been welcome, the gorgeous 4K overhaul, deep single-player campaign, and clever use of Switch 2 hardware make it an absolute must-play.
