Star Wars Battlefront 3: Is Disney Planning a Major Studio Switch After 9 Years of Waiting?

The Endless Wait for Star Wars Battlefront 3

For nearly a decade, fans of the iconic sci-fi franchise have eagerly anticipated the arrival of Star Wars Battlefront 3. Ever since the release of previous entries, the gaming community has yearned to return to massive multiplayer battlefields set in a galaxy far, far away. Recent rumors suggest that Disney and Lucasfilm are actively searching for the ideal development team to finally bring this dream project to life, sparking widespread excitement across the industry.

DICE vs. Bungie: Who Will Take the Helm?

According to reports originating from Electronic Gaming Monthly, Disney is evaluating potential studios to spearhead the development of the next installment. Two major names have surfaced in these discussions:

• DICE: As the studio behind the previous entries in the modern Star Wars Battlefront series, DICE would seem like the natural choice to continue the saga, despite past controversies regarding monetization.
• Bungie: In a more surprising twist, Disney is reportedly considering the creators of Destiny and Halo. Bungie’s extensive pedigree in crafting first-person and multiplayer shooters makes them a compelling dark horse candidate.

A New Direction for the Franchise?

Entrusting the franchise to Bungie could signal a dramatic shift in identity for the series. While DICE knows the ropes, Bungie's expertise in science-fiction shooters could introduce innovative gameplay mechanics. Furthermore, given Sony's acquisition of Bungie in 2022, such a partnership could introduce fascinating possibilities regarding platform exclusivity or special collaborations on PlayStation hardware.

What Lies Ahead?

As exciting as these rumors are, neither Disney nor the mentioned studios have issued official confirmations regarding Star Wars Battlefront 3. Fans should remain cautiously optimistic while awaiting official announcements from Lucasfilm Games.
