28 migrants rescued off the northern coast this Tuesday
Nearly 30 people were rescued during the night of Monday, March 9th to Tuesday, March 10th, after a migrant boat set sail off the coast of Dunkirk (Nord). A migrant boat was reported during the night of Monday, March 9th to Tuesday, March 10th to the Gris-Nez Regional Operational Surveillance and Rescue Center (CROSS) in Dunkirk (Nord), the Manche and North Sea Prefecture announced in a press release on Tuesday. In total, 28 people were rescued after requesting assistance. The boat's engine had failed. None of them were injured.
"The Maritime Prefect of the Channel and the North Sea warns anyone considering crossing the Channel of the risks involved," the statement explains. "This maritime area is one of the busiest in the world, and weather conditions are often difficult."
