A second missile fired from Iran was destroyed by NATO in Turkish airspace.
A second missile fired from Iran was destroyed by NATO in Turkish airspace, the Turkish Ministry of Defense said in a statement on Monday, March 9.
"A ballistic missile fired from Iran that penetrated Turkish airspace was neutralized by NATO air and missile defense elements deployed in the Eastern Mediterranean. Fragments of the missile fell in fields in Gaziantep. The incident caused no casualties or injuries," the ministry said.
"We reaffirm that all necessary measures will be taken firmly and without hesitation in the face of any threat targeting our territory and airspace. We remind everyone that it is in everyone's interest to heed Turkey's warnings in this regard," the ministry added.
Second missile after first one on Wednesday
A first missile fired from Iran and heading towards Turkish airspace was destroyed last Wednesday.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan warned Iran on Saturday, calling for "caution."
"We have spoken with our friends in Iran and told them that if it was a stray missile, that's another story. It could be an isolated incident, but if it happens again, we advise you to take the most precautionary measures." "Extreme caution is advised; no one in Iran should embark on such an adventure," he stated. The missile intercepted last Wednesday was indeed targeting Turkey, a NATO official confirmed to AFP on Thursday. No details were provided regarding the military resources deployed for its interception.
