Arnold Schwarzenegger will reprise his role as Conan the Barbarian
He hadn't appeared in a film since 2019. According to the American media outlet Variety, Arnold Schwarzenegger will reprise his role as Conan the Barbarian in a third installment of the saga, titled King Conan.
Released in In 1982, this action-adventure film revealed the former bodybuilder to the general public, before James Cameron's Terminator propelled him to international fame two years later.
"The role is adapted to my age"
Arnold Schwarzenegger portrayed Conan in Conan the Barbarian (1982) and Conan the Destroyer (1984). In 2011, Hollywood attempted to revive Conan with Jason Momoa in the title role, but the film was a commercial failure, grossing only $63 million worldwide against an estimated production budget of $90 million. Speaking to Variety, the actor offered some hints about the content of this third installment: "With 'King Conan,' it's a great classic story: Conan reigns for 40 years, then he's driven out of the kingdom, which causes conflict, of course, but he eventually returns and it's chaos: violence, magic, creatures, and all that jazz. And now, obviously, there are all these special effects. The studio has the resources to make big-budget films, so I'm looking forward to..." "participate in all these projects," he added.
But Arnold Schwarzenegger isn't just returning to this franchise. The actor and former governor of California, whose last film appearance was in 2019 (Terminator: Dark Fate), is also in talks to reprise his roles in the films Commando (1985) and Predator (1987).
"They made a second 'Predator,' and director Dan Trachtenberg did a fantastic job. Now he wants me in the next one. We've talked about it," Schwarzenegger told Variety. "Fox Studios told me, 'We want you to do 'Predator,' we just offered you a script for 'Commando 2.'"
