Canva surpasses $4 billion in revenue and transforms its business thanks to AI

Canva has been undergoing a transformation since last October and is confirming its status as a major player among online creative tools. The Australian platform, long perceived as a simple alternative to professional suites, now displays indicators that place it in a different category.

With double-digit growth, increasing monetization, and the deep integration of AI, the publisher is scaling up and redefining its positioning in the global design market.

265 million monthly users, including 31 million paying users

By the end of 2025, Canva claims more than 265 million monthly active users, and among them, more than 31 million are subscribed to a paid plan. This base has allowed the company to reach $4 billion in ARR, or annual recurring revenue, according to figures provided to TechCrunch. The momentum is strong, as the platform has seen a 20% year-over-year increase in users. While North America remains its primary market, Canva is strengthening its international presence, notably through discounted subscriptions in certain emerging countries. The B2B segment is also thriving, with enterprise accounts with more than 25 offices showing 100% growth, reaching $500 million in ARR. This growth reflects an increasingly structured usage pattern within organizations, extending well beyond independent creators or marketing teams. AI, a growth driver… and a new acquisition channel. While Canva built its success on ease of use, artificial intelligence has become the core of its strategy since last April. For its part, the AI-powered tool for creating mini-applications and websites already boasts over 10 million monthly active users. However, the most interesting development is on the distribution side, with major language models like OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic increasingly redirecting users to Canva when they need help creating a presentation or designing a logo. Canva reports that traffic from LLMs now represents a double-digit share of its acquisitions, as seen on ChatGPT, where over 26 million conversations have involved the Canva application. Thus, this paradigm shift is transforming AI assistants into true gateways to software. Where Google SEO historically dominated customer acquisition, chatbots are now becoming a strategic lever

Increased Pressure on Adobe

With $4 billion in revenue and a valuation estimated at $42 billion in its latest secondary transaction, Canva is establishing itself as a credible competitor to Adobe. While the American company retains its advantage in advanced professional uses, Canva is massively capturing the market of non-designers and SMEs.

From a design platform equipped with AI tools, Canva aims to become an AI platform that integrates design tools. A strategic shift that could permanently reshape the balance of the creative sector…
