Crans-Montana fire: the father of a victim regrets that with the French justice system "we don't know where we stand"

A meeting with the interministerial delegate for victim assistance and French civil parties involved in the investigation into the fire in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, was held this Tuesday at the Paris courthouse. The victims are still demanding answers more than two months after the fire in Crans-Montana, Switzerland. This Tuesday, March 10, a meeting was held at the Paris courthouse with the interministerial delegate for victim assistance and French civil parties involved in this case. Among those present was Frédéric Van de Velde, the father of Mélanie. Severely burned in the tragedy, she left the hospital in Nantes on Monday, March 9. Even though "it could be better," Frédéric Van de Velde emphasizes that his daughter's discharge from the hospital "is a positive step." Now, several months of rehabilitation await her. The investigation has been expanded to include five other people. But speaking to BFMTV, he laments that "we don't know where we stand with the French justice system." "Knowing where we're going would do us good," he hopes. The family's lawyer, Sylvie Noachovitch, is also "waiting for answers." Regarding the investigation, the inquiry has been expanded to include five current and former officials of the municipality of Crans-Montana. The investigation for "arson by negligence, manslaughter by negligence, and serious bodily harm by negligence" now targets nine people, including the French owners of the bar, the current head of security for Crans-Montana, and his predecessor. "No one is protected. The truth will come out, which is fantastic for my clients," says Sylvie Noachovitch. The fire at the "Le Constellation" bar on New Year's Eve left 41 dead and 115 injured, including a significant number of teenagers and young adults. Some of them are still hospitalized.
