Death of Quentin Deranque: the seventh suspect charged has finally been imprisoned

Following a wave of arrests on February 17 and 18, six men were charged with "voluntary homicide," suspected of having directly inflicted blows, and one with "complicity."

One of the men charged with "voluntary homicide" in the investigation into the death of radical far-right activist Quentin Deranque in Lyon, initially released, was finally remanded in custody on Thursday, the Court of Appeal announced.

Upon appeal by the public prosecutor's office, the investigating chamber of the court overturned the decision of the judge of freedoms and detention, and this 25-year-old suspect was placed in pretrial detention, like the other six. men charged in this case.

Quentin Deranque, 23, was violently beaten on the ground by several hooded individuals on February 12 in Lyon, after a clash between two groups of far-right and far-left activists. He succumbed to his injuries two days later.

Six men charged with "voluntary homicide"

Following a wave of arrests on February 17 and 18, six men were charged with "voluntary homicide," suspected of having directly inflicted blows, and one with "complicity."

Aged between 20 and 26, the seven are, according to a source close to the case, "known to be either members or associates" of the Jeune Garde Antifasciste (Young Antifascist Guard), a far-left movement founded in 2018 in Lyon by LFI (La France Insoumise) MP Raphaël Arnault and dissolved in June. Two were the MP's staff members at the National Assembly.

Only one had been released under judicial supervision; the other six were remanded in custody.
