Instagram is testing clickable links in post captions

Since its inception, Instagram has always imposed a very specific constraint: it's almost impossible to add clickable links directly into posts. Content creators have therefore had to work around this limitation with solutions like the popular "link in bio." But this rule could soon change, as Meta is currently testing a feature that allows users to insert clickable links directly into Instagram post captions. A still limited experiment, but one that could transform the way creators share their content and direct their audience to other platforms…

According to Andrea Valeria, a very popular content creator on Threads, Instagram is experimenting with integrating clickable links into post captions for users subscribed to Meta Verified.

In a video capture shared on Threads, an active Substack link can be seen in the description of a post. Furthermore, she claims that a message in the application indicated that she could add up to 10 links per month.

Meta confirmed the existence of the test to Engadget, without specifying how many users have access to it at the moment. The functionality also seems limited, as some links appear only in the mobile app, but not on the web version of Instagram.

If this test were to be rolled out more widely, it would represent a significant change for the platform, because until now, users could only include clickable links in Stories, Reels, or their profile bio…

A development that could shake up the “link in bio” ecosystem

The limitation of links on Instagram has fostered the emergence of a whole ecosystem of external services, with platforms like Linktree that allow creators to group multiple links on a single page accessible from their bio.

With the potential arrival of links directly in posts, these tools could lose some of their usefulness. However, the mentioned limit of 10 links per month suggests that creators may still need intermediate solutions to redirect their audience to multiple pieces of content. For creators, access to these features could also become an additional argument in favor of a paid subscription. Indeed, Meta Verified plans for creators start at around $14.99 per month and can reach several hundred dollars for the most advanced packages. If Meta decides to expand this feature, Instagram could redefine one of the historical principles of its operation. For creators and brands, this would open up new possibilities for transforming a post into a true entry point to their external content.
