Meta is recruiting a star-studded AI team to create the assistants of the future.

With projects like ClawdBot, now OpenClaw, and NemoClaw from Nvidia, for several months now, AI agents have been at the heart of all the discussions.

Faced with this emerging trend, Meta is multiplying its initiatives to strengthen its capabilities in this area, and is embarking on a new acquisition… or almost.

Meta acquires the entire Dreamer team

In an open letter, we learn that Meta has just concluded an agreement to integrate the co-founders and teams of the startup Dreamer, specializing in AI agents.

While the amount of the transaction has not been disclosed, we do know that the members of the startup will join the group Meta's Superintelligence Labs, led by AI director Alexandr Wang, former founder of Scale AI, which was recently acquired by Meta.

But rather than a full acquisition, Meta opted for a hybrid structure. Dreamer will remain an independent legal entity, but Meta will obtain a non-exclusive license to its technology.

Founded by several Silicon Valley veterans, Dreamer raised $56 million in 2024, for an estimated valuation of $500 million. Among the founders are Hugo Barra, former executive at Google, Xiaomi, and Meta, as well as David Singleton, former CTO of Stripe and former head of Android engineering.

AI Agents: A New Strategic Priority?

The technology developed by Dreamer aims to allow users to create their own AI agents using natural language. These assistants can then perform various tasks such as managing emails, organizing a calendar, planning trips, or even helping students.

The project is based on the simple idea of giving everyone the ability to create personalized software tailored to their needs.

The founders also claim to share this vision with Mark Zuckerberg, having presented their technology to him earlier this year. For Meta, the stakes are high, as the company needs to catch up in this segment of AI and accelerate the development of autonomous assistants capable of interacting directly with the group's services. At the beginning of the year, Meta announced an estimated $2 billion acquisition of the startup Manus, and more recently, Meta also acquired Moltbook, a social platform dedicated to AI agents. With the arrival of the Dreamer team, and despite a recent announcement of massive layoffs, the group confirms its commitment to making intelligent agents one of the pillars of its AI strategy for the coming years.
