Middle East war: More than 300 people arrested in Qatar for publishing "rumors" and images of Iranian attacks
Qatar authorities have arrested more than 300 people for publishing images and "misleading information" during Iran's attacks on the small Gulf state, the Interior Ministry announced Monday.
The 313 people arrested, "of various nationalities," "filmed and disseminated video footage and published misleading information and rumors," the ministry said in a statement.
They were apprehended by the ministry's economic and cybercrime unit.
These arrests echo measures taken in other Gulf countries, as Iran targets airports, military bases, energy facilities, and residential areas in the region daily with drones and missiles.
In Bahrain, four people were arrested for "filming and disseminating video footage about the effects of Iranian attacks and spreading fake news," the Interior Ministry said Friday.
In Kuwait, authorities announced Saturday the arrest of three people for a video in which they mocked the situation in the country.
Residents of the United Arab Emirates received text messages warning them of possible legal action if they share sensitive images or disseminate "non-information." reliable."
The UAE Attorney General's office also warned against "filming, publishing, or disseminating images and videos documenting the sites of incidents or damage caused by falling projectiles or shrapnel," the Emirati News Agency reported.
Saudi Arabia also issued similar warnings. Despite these warnings, images of missiles, drones, and the aftermath of the war continue to circulate on social media and in group chats.
