Perplexity's new AI browser is coming to iPhone to do your searches for you.
After several months of gradual rollout, Perplexity's AI-powered browser is finally available to iOS users.
Another step in the battle of next-generation browsers, where AI no longer just assists, but directly executes tasks…
An "agentic" browser designed to automate the web
With Comet, Perplexity is not simply offering a browser enhanced with a chatbot. Indeed, the ambition is rather to transform browsing into an agent-driven experience capable of acting on behalf of the user.
In concrete terms, Comet can compare prices across multiple sites, summarize customer reviews, or even organize search results around a specific topic. The assistant also relies on browsing habits to anticipate needs and quickly retrieve previously viewed content.
This positioning aligns with an emerging trend: that of "agentic" browsers. While tools like Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge are gradually integrating AI assistants, including through extensions like Claude for Chrome, Comet takes this a step further by enabling multi-step actions. The application also focuses on practical uses, such as trip planning, task organization, and quick comprehension of long content. Note also that voice interaction is also integrated to query the assistant directly on a web page.
A polished iOS integration… but some limitations

The Comet app is only available on iOS – Source: App Store
Available on the App Store For iPhone, Comet adopts Apple's visual style with the "Liquid Glass" aesthetic, which was heavily criticized at launch, offering an interface consistent with the iOS ecosystem. The application can also be set as the default browser, a strategic point for competing with Safari.
However, some technical limitations remain. For example, Apple still prohibits the installation of third-party extensions on alternative browsers, which limits customization options compared to the desktop versions. In addition, there is currently no version optimized for iPad.
Privacy is another sensitive issue, as Perplexity admits to collecting browsing data to power a targeted advertising model. A direct benefit of the app being free, which was previously offered at a high price on desktop…
A relative lead over mobile AI browsers
In the mobile ecosystem, Comet is ahead of its competitors, particularly compared to the still limited integration of Gemini in Chrome iOS, and the advanced features of Copilot on Edge, which are primarily available on desktop.
With this arrival on iPhone, Perplexity confirms its strategy of establishing itself as a leading player in AI-powered browsing interfaces. The coming months will tell us if users are ready to delegate some of their online actions to an agent, in exchange for simplicity… and their data.
