A few euros for The Back-to-School Allowance (ARS)
And finally, the back-to-school allowance is also among the social benefits that have been increased as of April 1st. This aid, which helps parents with modest incomes pay for their children's school expenses, affects nearly 3 million families.
As a reminder, the ARS is granted, subject to income requirements, to families with children aged 6 to 18 who are enrolled in a public or private school or registered with a distance learning provider.
For the 2026-2027 school year, children must have been born between September 16, 2008, and December 31, 2020 (inclusive). Younger children already enrolled in first grade (CP) are also eligible. However, the allowance is not granted for homeschooling. Finally, if the child is in an apprenticeship program, the allowance is paid provided their salary does not exceed 55% of the minimum wage (SMIC). Furthermore, the income threshold for eligibility for the back-to-school allowance (ARS) varies depending on the number of dependent children. The back-to-school allowance (ARS) will be granted during August 2026. Last year, the payment was made on August 19th in mainland France, Guadeloupe, Martinique, and French Guiana, and on August 5th in the departments of Mayotte and Réunion.
