Tinder is preparing a new experience to revive online dating

Between swipe fatigue, uninspiring profiles, and growing suspicions surrounding AI-generated conversations, Tinder is now looking to revamp its formula without abandoning its core identity.

To achieve this, the Match Group platform has just unveiled a series of new features designed to make the experience more natural, more social, and more reassuring, with the ambition of revitalizing online dating…

Tinder wants to move beyond simple swiping

For several months, usage patterns have been evolving, so much so that young singles, and in particular Generation Z, are showing themselves to be less attracted to long swiping sessions without concrete results. As seen in the company's recent press release, Tinder is well aware of this and is now trying to bridge the gap between social life and romantic relationships. Among the new features announced, the app is preparing an "Events" tab, initially tested in Los Angeles, which will allow users to discover local events such as parties, pottery classes, or more festive outings. The goal is to facilitate real-life encounters, rather than relying solely on digital exchanges. Along the same lines, Tinder is also testing a video speed dating format. Verified users will be able to participate in three-minute conversations with multiple profiles, with the option to extend a conversation if there's a connection.

To do this, the tool uses questions and answers and, with the user's consent, certain elements from their photo library to better understand their personality and preferences. The platform is also introducing a "Learning Mode," designed to more quickly identify a user's expectations, even during their first session. Tinder aims to limit the weariness caused by recommendations deemed too generic.

More security to restore trust

Finally, Tinder is announcing several adjustments to its security features. The "Are You Sure?" feature is designed to better identify potentially aggressive messages before they are sent, while other tools will help to more accurately detect disrespectful content.

Beyond the features themselves, this announcement primarily reflects a strategic shift. Despite still solid revenues for Match Group, Tinder's parent company has been facing a decline in the number of paying subscribers for several quarters.

By seeking to make encounters more authentic, more fluid, and less mechanical, Tinder hopes to win back a generation that no longer just wants to swipe, but to truly meet...
