Toulon Municipal Elections 2026: Gaël Fickou, Bernard Laporte... 300 prominent figures lend their support to candidate Michel Bonnus

Despite trailing in the polls, Michel Bonnus continues to garner support. The support committee for the Var senator, the LR's lead candidate for the Toulon municipal election, has published a list of 300 prominent figures who "are committed to Toulon with Michel Bonnus."

The right-wing candidate also benefits from the support of many figures in the world of rugby, having been a professional player in his youth. Among them is former Minister of Sports and FFR President Bernard Laporte, who notably won three European Cups with Rugby Club Toulonnais.

Active Athletes

International center Gaël Fickou, who plays for Racing 92, is also joining forces with Michel Bonnus. The third most selected player in the history of the French national rugby team, Gaël Fickou was born in La Seyne-sur-Mer and was trained at Toulon (RCT), before joining Toulouse in 2012. Two current players, who are currently playing for Toulon, have also lent their support to the senator: Swan and Ryan Rebbadj. The latter won Olympic gold at the Paris 2024 Games.

Figures from civil society

Beyond the Rebbadj brothers, numerous figures who have been involved with the Var club have also pledged their support to Michel Bonnus: former team manager Thom Whitford, director of the rugby school Richard Rappalino, former player and then coach Aubin Hueber, and physical trainer Gilles Allou.

In addition to the rugby community, Michel Bonnus benefits from the support of other figures from civil society (lawyers, business leaders, doctors, etc.) and the political world (the local Modem delegate, former MP Fabien Matras, etc.).

In recent weeks, Michel Bonnus had already been able to count on two significant reinforcements: Hubert Falco, mayor of Toulon between 2001 and 2023, and Mourad Boudjellal, former president of RCT.
