The billionaire, a major shareholder in the car manufacturer Tesla, the space company SpaceX, the social network X, and the artificial intelligence company xAI, tops the list of the world's richest people published this Tuesday by Forbes magazine. His fortune is estimated at $839 billion, compared to $342 billion on the list published a year earlier. This is also more than triple the wealth of the other two members of the top three: Google co-founders Larry Page ($257 billion) and Sergey Brin ($237 billion).

Elon Musk's fortune has notably skyrocketed since SpaceX announced it would acquire xAI, which develops the Grok AI robot and the X social network. This merger, which could create a giant valued at $1.25 trillion, precedes the rocket and satellite group's planned IPO this year, which has been announced as the largest in history.

With an estimated fortune of $224 billion, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos ranks fourth, followed by Mark Zuckerberg ($222 billion) and Larry Ellison ($190 billion). Bernard Arnault and his family come in 7th (171 billion) and have dropped two places in one year.

Billionaires' wealth up by $4 trillion

According to Forbes, known for its annual ranking of the world's richest people, the planet now has 3,428 billionaires, 400 more than a year ago. Their combined wealth is $20.1 trillion, compared to $16.1 trillion a year earlier.

Among these richest people in the world is Donald Trump. The American president ranks 645th with an estimated fortune of $6.5 billion, compared to $5.1 billion a year earlier. This growth is partly explained by cryptocurrency sales.

Well-known names have also entered the Forbes ranking this year. These include, for example, rapper Dr. Dre ($1 billion), singer Beyoncé ($1 billion), and tennis legend Roger Federer ($1.1 billion).
