Apple Expands Its Smart Home Ecosystem
Apple has officially announced its long-awaited smart home strategy during its 'Welcome home' event in New York. The star of the announcement is the brand new Apple HomeView, a dedicated smart home hub designed to compete directly with Amazon's Echo Show and Google's Nest Hub.
Alongside the HomeView, Apple unveiled a refreshed Apple TV 4K and the updated HomePod mini 2, rounding out a comprehensive hardware refresh focused entirely on the connected home, powered heavily by Apple Intelligence and Siri AI.
The Apple HomeView: Features and Pricing
The Apple HomeView features a 7-inch Liquid Retina display equipped with True Tone technology and ambient light adjustments ranging smoothly from 500 nits down to 0.3 nits. Available in two configurations—a standalone countertop unit with a metal speaker base or a sleek wall-mounted version—it aims to serve as the ultimate household command center.
Crucially, the device utilizes advanced facial recognition powered by Apple Intelligence to recognize up to six different household members, dynamically switching personal user interfaces, calendars, and to-do lists as people approach. It also features a 12MP Center Stage camera for seamless FaceTime calls and integrations with Safari, Apple News, Intercom, and Apple Music.
- Price: Starts at $299 for both countertop and wall-mounted base models (mounting hardware sold separately).
- Release Date: Pre-orders open October 13, with official shipping starting November 13, 2026.
Apple TV 4K (2026) Upgrades
The newly updated Apple TV 4K receives a substantial performance bump thanks to the inclusion of the A19 chip, replacing the aging hardware from previous generations. Beyond improved responsiveness for gaming and streaming, the new set-top box features hands-free Siri AI support and crucially expands its home theater capabilities.
Users can now pair up to four compatible HomePod speakers (such as two HomePod 2nd Gen units and two HomePod mini 2 units) for a fully calibrated surround sound experience. Furthermore, the redesigned Siri Remote now includes a built-in speaker and native support for Apple's Find My tracking network, making lost couch remotes a thing of the past.
- Price: $299
- Release Date: Pre-orders begin October 13, shipping November 13.
HomePod mini 2 Brings Sound Glow and AI
Over five years after the debut of the original smart speaker, the HomePod mini 2 has finally arrived. Powered by the S10 processor derived from the Apple Watch Series 10, the compact speaker brings full support for Apple Intelligence and Siri AI to smaller rooms.
A standout new feature is Sound Glow, an LED lighting ring at the top of the speaker that dynamically pulses and mirrors the album artwork or customized ambient soundscape colors while music plays. It will be available in five vibrant colors: green, blue, pink, white, and midnight.
- Price: $149
- Release Date: Available October 30, with pre-orders opening immediately.
The Apple Home Collection Partnership
To eliminate the fragmentation typical of smart home setups, Apple announced partnerships with major hardware manufacturers like LG and Schneider Electric. The resulting 'Apple Home Collection' includes fully integrated accessories such as smart deadbolt locks, video doorbells, smart thermostats, and indoor/outdoor security cameras that pair seamlessly with the Home app and HomeView hub via simple proximity setups.
