Often affectionately dubbed 'Skyrim in space', Bethesda's sprawling space epic Starfield is taking a significant step toward its predecessor's immersive roots. Thanks to a new community-created mod, players can now enjoy the popular family-building mechanics famously introduced in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. The 'Parenthood: Child Adoption' modification, developed by KalTheHuman, brings a touch of warmth and domesticity to the vast, cold reaches of the galaxy.
Bringing Family Life to the Settled Systems
The mod allows players to adopt two unique children: Eli, a young mechanical prodigy from Cydonia who is accompanied by his reprogrammed robot companion, Pip; and Riley, an aspiring pilot living in the docks of Hopetown. Once adopted, these children can reside in the player's personal starship, a player-owned house, or even with the character's parents if the 'Kid Stuff' trait was selected during initial character creation.
Deepening the RPG Experience
The integration goes beyond simple cosmetic additions. The creator has included interactive role-playing elements, such as playing games of hide-and-seek, gifting items or pocket money, and telling stories to the children. While the dialogue features full English voice acting, the mod also offers tangible gameplay benefits: spending time with Eli provides a boost to carry weight, while bonding with Riley increases the player's grav jump range.

This feature is accessible via the official Bethesda Creations platform for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 (where applicable via cross-platform services). To acquire the mod, players must visit the Bethesda Creations portal and purchase it for 400 Creation Credits.
