Introduction to the Leaked Assassin's Creed Project

Ubisoft has long captured the hearts of gamers with its iconic historical exploration franchise, Assassin's Creed. Following recent successes like the remake of the fourth installment, which quickly surpassed 3.5 million sales within two weeks, and anticipation surrounding upcoming major titles like AC Hexe, details have emerged about secrets kept deep within the company's development pipeline. Behind closed doors, Ubisoft was quietly working on another Assassin's Creed game set in China, tailored specifically for consoles and PC, distinct from the mobile-focused AC Jade. However, strategic realignments and leaks have now thrust this cancelled title, known as Assassin's Creed Destiny, into the spotlight.

Assassin's Creed Destiny: The Lost Journey to Ancient China

According to industry reports, Ubisoft simultaneously managed two projects rooted in Chinese history. While the mobile project AC Jade continued development, the second, larger-scale title was quietly scrapped, despite reaching an advanced prototype stage by early 2025. Developed by TiMi Studio—a subsidiary of Tencent—Assassin's Creed Destiny was designed to bring parkour, stealth, combat, and assassinations to PC and console platforms.

Leaked gameplay footage and prototype images revealed a female assassin tasked with retrieving a mysterious artifact inside a sacred palace besieged by the troops of the historical military leader Xiang Yu. Animations further hinted at a playable male protagonist, continuing the franchise's recent tradition of offering gender choice. The game also introduced unique cultural aesthetics, such as umbrellas functioning as weapons, ability icons styled after traditional Chinese ink wash painting, and a health bar adorned with a yin-yang symbol. Set around 206 BCE during a turbulent historical era, it predated or coincided closely with the timeline of AC Jade.

Why Was Assassin's Creed Destiny Cancelled?

The sudden abandonment of the project stems from broader strategic shifts. Following the creation of Vantage Studios—a partnership with Tencent involving major financial investments—Ubisoft and its partners evaluated their collective portfolio. Tencent's restructuring in early 2026 led to a reassessment of its reliance on Western-associated franchises, ultimately resulting in the cancellation of Assassin's Creed Destiny in favor of streamlining resources.

The Future of Assassin's Creed in Asia

Despite the disappointment felt by fans who marveled at the leaked prototype footage, the franchise's presence in Asia remains alive. Ubisoft has previously confirmed that AC Jade remains in active development for mobile devices, offering hope that elements of these cancelled ideas might eventually see the light of day. For now, however, players will have to wait to see how the franchise ultimately explores the rich tapestry of imperial Chinese history.
