5 Best New to Netflix Movies and Shows to Stream This Week (Sept. 28 - Oct. 4)

As we roll into the first week of October, Netflix is once again bolstering its library with a diverse mix of new content, totaling over 70 new additions. Whether you are looking for lighthearted family entertainment or a gripping, dark documentary, this week’s lineup has something to satisfy every viewer.

Top Picks for the Week

LEGO One Piece (Sept. 29) Fans of the hit live-action One Piece series are in for a treat. This two-part special reimagines the Straw Hat crew’s journey in charming, plastic brick form. Narrated by Usopp, it provides a playful, accessible recap of the first two seasons, perfect for both long-time fans and younger audiences being introduced to the world for the first time.

The Widower: 'Til Death Do Us Part (Sept. 30) True crime enthusiasts, take note. This feature-length documentary dives into a chilling, real-life story of manipulation and murder. The film follows a journalist and a detective as they piece together the history of a killer whose surface-level charm hid decades of dark secrets.

East of Eden (Oct. 1) Perhaps the most anticipated addition, this series adaptation of the John Steinbeck classic brings a sprawling generational drama to the screen. Boasting a powerhouse cast led by Florence Pugh, the show promises to be a high-quality, prestige drama that explores complex family dynamics in California's Salinas Valley.

The Bourne Identity (Oct. 1) Netflix is adding the entire Jason Bourne franchise to its platform. If you haven't seen it, The Bourne Identity is the must-watch starting point. It redefined action cinema in the early 2000s, offering a gritty, grounded take on the spy genre that still holds up exceptionally well today.

Tyler Perry’s Doing Life (Oct. 2) Filmmaker Tyler Perry continues his prolific partnership with Netflix with this new romantic drama. Starring Naomi Baker and Jay Reeves, the story focuses on a single mother and a reformed ex-convict who find an unexpected bond. Perry’s knack for character-driven storytelling makes this a likely hit for subscribers who enjoy emotional, character-focused narratives.

Everything Else Coming to Netflix

The start of a new month is always a busy time for the streaming giant. Alongside the top picks, the beginning of October brings a massive influx of content, including popular titles like 21 Jump Street, The Menu, and the complete Twilight Saga.

Conversely, viewers should be aware that licensing agreements mean a variety of titles will be leaving the platform, including Gone Girl, Apollo 13, and the first two seasons of Halo. Be sure to catch your favorites before they disappear this week.
