Introduction to Amazon's Latest Hardware Lineup
Just in time for the October Prime Day shopping event, Amazon has officially announced a brand-new $59 Fire TV Stick 4K alongside a completely redesigned standard remote and a premium "Remote Plus" featuring built-in Alexa capabilities designed to help you locate it instantly. These exciting hardware rollouts are accompanied by sweeping new AI-powered Alexa+ features integrated directly into the Fire TV interface to simplify discovering your next favorite streaming shows and movies.
Fire TV Stick 4K: Performance and Specs
Following in the footsteps of the Fire TV Stick HD released earlier this year, the new Fire TV Stick 4K runs on Amazonâs proprietary Vega OS rather than the legacy Android kernel found on older generations. Amazon claims the updated streaming device is roughly 20% to 40% faster than competing market options. Under the hood, it features a quad-core 1.7 GHz processor, 8GB of onboard storage, Wi-Fi 6 connectivity, and Bluetooth 5.3 with Bluetooth Low Energy support. Conveniently, it can pull power directly from most television USB ports. The hardware handles high-end video formats including HDR10, HDR10+, HLG, H.265, H.264, VP9, and AV1, outputting resolutions up to 2160p at 60 frames per second. While the standard retail price is set at $59.99, Amazon has introduced promotional launch discounts for early shoppers.
With this addition, Amazon's lineup now spans the Fire TV Stick HD, the new Fire TV Stick 4K, and the premium $84 Fire TV Stick 4K Max, alongside the high-end $199 Fire TV Cube.
Fire TV Remote Plus: Finally, a Lost Remote Solution
Addressing one of the most common user pain points, Amazon's newly redesigned remotes introduce several physical upgrades. The standard bundled remote features an asymmetrical profileâthinner at the top with a squared-off front edge and a rounded backâalongside a metal Home button and distinct tactile button indentations for easier navigation in the dark. A customizable Star button is also included for launching favorite apps or settings.
For those prone to losing remotes down couch cushions, the elevated Fire TV Remote Plus steps up the experience with an aluminum casing, backlit buttons, and a long-awaited "Find My" capability. Simply saying, "Alexa, find my remote," prompts the device to emit an audible chime, matching similar tracking features found on Apple TV and Google TV hardware. The Remote Plus is scheduled to launch later at an unannounced price point.
Alexa+ AI Enhancements and Interface Hub
Amazon is also bringing an array of advanced Alexa+ AI features to its ecosystem. The upgraded voice assistant can handle complex queries that factor in awards histories, cultural references, live events, user watch histories, and active subscriptions. Users can prompt Alexa with complex requests, such as viewing the Marvel universe in chronological order, finding critically snubbed Emmy nominees, or tracking down top-tier book-to-screen adaptations.
To centralize this functionality, an on-screen Alexa+ hub will display recent prompts and conversations across multiple Amazon devices, allowing seamless continuation right from the TV screen. This feature will roll out initially to existing hardware like the Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen), Fire TV Cube, and partner smart TVs from Hisense and TCL before expanding broadly.
