The Future of The Witcher Franchise
CD Projekt Red has once again captured the attention of RPG fans worldwide. While the upcoming remake of the original The Witcher game is already one of the most anticipated titles in development, recent statements from the studio suggest that the ambitions of the Polish developer might stretch far beyond just a single modernized adventure.
Refurbishing a Legend
The original The Witcher, released back in 2007 on PC, laid the foundation for one of modern gaming's most celebrated franchises. However, its dated mechanics, quirky combat system, and aged graphics make it a prime candidate for a complete overhaul. Developed under the working title "Canis Majoris" by the external studio Fool's Engine with heavy oversight from CD Projekt Red, the remake aims to rebuild the adventure from the ground up using Unreal Engine 5.
Is The Witcher 2 Remake on the Horizon?
While the focus remains firmly on modernizing Geralt of Rivia's very first outing, recent developer comments have sparked intense speculation across the community. Could the success of this project pave the way for a potential remake of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings? Although nothing has been officially confirmed, CD Projekt Red's leadership has hinted that they are open to re-evaluating their older catalog depending on how the initial remake performs.
As the studio balances multiple massive projects, including the next-generation Witcher trilogy (Project Polaris) and the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, fans can only wait and hope that Geralt's earlier digital escapades receive the deluxe modern treatment they truly deserve.
