For decades, Sony has curated a massive library of iconic franchises, but many of its most beloved titles have remained dormant during the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 eras. Recent leaks suggest this might change, as industry insiders point toward the return of a nostalgic favorite: Ape Escape.

The Resurgence of Classic IPs

While PlayStation has faced mixed public sentiment recently, there is growing evidence that the company is looking back to its roots. Rumors have circulated regarding the potential revival of heavy hitters like Uncharted, inFamous, and Killzone. However, the most surprising addition to this list is the colorful and innovative platformer, Ape Escape.

What the Leaks Suggest

The speculation originated from activity on the ResetEra forums, where well-known industry insider Nate the Hate dropped subtle hints. When confronted with claims that the series was being teased by multiple sources, his responses—expressed through emojis—strongly implied that a project is indeed in the works.

Crucially, Nate the Hate clarified that Team Asobi, the developers behind the critically acclaimed 'Astro Bot', are not currently working on the project. Furthermore, he noted that Bandai Namco does not appear to be involved, though he admitted he would need to double-check the latest internal status of the development to be absolutely certain.

A Legacy of Innovation

Ape Escape holds a special place in gaming history. Debuting in 1999 on the original PlayStation, it was celebrated as a benchmark for 3D platformers, famously requiring the DualShock analog controller to play. The series saw several successful entries throughout the PS2 and PSP eras, though it faded from the spotlight following its 2010 motion-controlled spin-off.

However, the series never truly disappeared from the cultural conversation. Its recent, significant cameo in 2024's 'Astro Bot'—which featured a dedicated level—reignited hope among fans. While we wait for official confirmation from Sony, the prospect of returning to catch Pipo Monkeys after 20 years is undoubtedly an exciting development for long-time PlayStation enthusiasts.
