Introduction

As production and component costs continue their relentless upward trajectory, consumers are feeling the pinch more than ever, particularly when purchasing high-end electronics. Recent reports indicate that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S27 series may become the latest lineup to suffer from significant price increases due to the skyrocketing cost of RAM and storage.

Galaxy S27 Price Hikes Across the Board

While previous leaks suggested that only the high-end S27 Ultra might see a $100 price bump—pushing its starting price to $1,400—fresh murmurs from the rumor mill suggest that the entire Galaxy S27 lineup could experience a price hike. Sourced from a prominent blog on the Korean social media platform Naver, this rumor points the finger directly at the extortionate cost of memory components. Samsung is reportedly struggling to absorb these rising production costs internally, meaning the price increases are likely to be passed directly to consumers, beginning in the Korean market.

Although regional pricing strategies can vary, market analysts note that a RAM-driven price surge on home turf strongly implies international markets will face similar adjustments. Base models could see increases in the range of 130,000 won (approximately $95), while storage tier upgrades are expected to become even more expensive. With existing storage upgrades already commanding hundreds of extra dollars, consumers looking for high-capacity models may find themselves paying a steep premium.

The S27 Ultra Could Be Even Heavier, Too

Beyond pricing concerns, new specifications regarding the Galaxy S27 Ultra have surfaced from reliable industry insider Ice Universe. According to the leak, the S27 Ultra is tipped to weigh 218 grams (7.69 ounces)—four grams heavier than its predecessor, the S26 Ultra. Interestingly, the device's thickness is expected to remain steady at an ultra-slim 7.9mm (0.31 inches).

This minor weight increase raises questions, especially given rumors that Samsung might drop the secondary telephoto lens. However, the extra weight is likely attributed to major hardware upgrades. Samsung is heavily anticipated to adopt advanced silicon-carbon batteries, much like the technology utilized in the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series. This transition allows for a massive jump in battery capacity—rumored to reach 5,700 mAh compared to the S26 Ultra's 5,000 mAh pack—without compromising the phone's slim profile.

Integrated Magnetic Charging and Qi2 Support

Further contributing to the structural adjustments, Samsung is rumored to incorporate magnets directly into the back of the S27 series to provide a native Qi2 wireless charging experience. This addition would allow users to seamlessly attach magnetic chargers and accessories without needing a specialized case, a feature long enjoyed by iPhone users and select competitors. While magnets add a small amount of weight—as observed in recent competitor models transitioning to Qi2—the convenience of ecosystem compatibility is expected to outweigh the minor heft.

As we edge closer to the anticipated early 2027 release date, prospective buyers will need to weigh these exciting hardware innovations against the troubling trend of rising smartphone costs.
