Apple is set to host a major hardware event tomorrow, titled 'Welcome Home,' which is expected to fundamentally reshape the company's approach to the smart home ecosystem. Ahead of the official unveiling, industry leaks from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman have provided a clear look at what fans can expect, centering on the introduction of the 'HomeView' smart home hub.

The Rise of Apple HomeView

The star of the show is anticipated to be the all-new HomeView device. Designed to bridge the gap between an iPad and a HomePod, the HomeView will act as the central control panel for Apple's smart home architecture. Rumored to be powered by an A18 chip with 8GB of RAM, this device aims to resolve past issues with Siri's reliability. It will reportedly be available in both a standalone, tabletop configuration and a wall-mounted model. Users can expect color options including Gray, Silver, Starlight, and Rose, though the wall-mounted version will be restricted to the metallic finishes. Despite being a game-changer, reports suggest it will ship with first-party apps only, excluding a third-party App Store at launch, with availability beginning in mid-November.

Upgraded Apple TV 4K

Apple is also expected to refresh its streaming hardware. The new Apple TV 4K will likely retain its familiar design but receive a significant internal overhaul. Upgrades include a transition to the A17 Pro chip and a RAM increase to 8GB. Notably, the device is expected to support advanced connectivity standards, including Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, alongside a new N1 chip to facilitate Apple Intelligence and improved voice processing. A refreshed Siri Remote is also anticipated to accompany the device.

Next-Generation HomePod mini

The HomePod mini is also in line for an iterative refresh. While the physical design will remain largely unchanged, the internals will see a major boost with the inclusion of the S10 chip, moving significantly beyond the current S5-based architecture. Apple is expected to introduce new colorways for the lineup, including Green, Pink, Blue, White, and Midnight.

Broader Smart Home Ambitions

Beyond these core hardware releases, Apple is reportedly partnering with various manufacturers to expand its ecosystem of compatible accessories, including smart doorbells, thermostats, and enhanced security lighting. While these new hardware categories promise to close the largest hole in Apple’s current ecosystem, consumers may have to wait until late in the year to get their hands on some of the accompanying smart home hardware. The event, held in New York, promises to be an all-out assault on the smart home market, driven by the newfound capabilities of Siri AI.
