Casio has announced two distinct new additions to its legendary G-Shock watch lineup, catering to entirely different segments of the market. The new releases range from a $89,000 sapphire-encased marvel to a $264 rugged powerhouse designed for the toughest environments.
The $89,000 MRG-D5000: A Sapphire Masterpiece
Dubbed 'The Blue Rose Project,' the MRG-D5000 is arguably the most exclusive G-Shock ever produced. Limited to just 20 units worldwide, this timepiece features a bezel and outer case crafted entirely from blue sapphire crystal. The result is a watch that offers extreme hardness and unparalleled clarity. The project builds on the legacy of the original 'Dream Project' led by G-Shock creator Kikuo Ibe, which previously explored high-end materials like 18-carat gold. To ensure the durability synonymous with the G-Shock name, engineers utilized a multi-component structure designed to disperse impact effectively.
The Rugged Mudman GDG-B100: Built for the Battlefield
In stark contrast to the luxury of the MRG-D5000, the new Mudman GDG-B100 is designed for genuine outdoor performance and tactical use. Starting at approximately $264, this watch is built to withstand extreme conditions, featuring a carbon fiber-reinforced resin case for superior rigidity. The design includes a complete airtight seal and specialized gaskets on the button shafts to prevent the ingress of mud and dust. The Mudman GDG-B100 is equipped with a memory-in-pixel (MIP) LCD and a red LED backlight, similar to the Apple Watch Ultra, to preserve night vision. For the data-driven athlete, it tracks distance, pace, and calories, and includes a built-in accelerometer for step counting. With Bluetooth connectivity, users can manage training data through the Casio app, making it a reliable companion for intense physical training like Hyrox or Ironman competitions.
