How Tom's Guide Tests and Reviews the Best TVs on the Market

Our Commitment to Unbiased TV Testing

At Tom's Guide, we take the science of television performance seriously. Each year, our expert editorial team rigorously tests over 50 TVs to ensure you receive the most accurate and reliable recommendations possible. Our goal is to demystify the complex world of display technology, from OLED to the latest QLED innovations, helping you make an informed decision for your home entertainment setup.

The Rigorous Testing Methodology

We don't just glance at a screen; we put every TV through a gauntlet of technical and real-world scenarios. Our testing lab is equipped with industry-standard tools, including:

• Calman Ultimate: For professional-grade display calibration and color accuracy analysis.
• Leo Bodnar 4K HDMI Video Signal Lag Tester: Essential for measuring input lag, ensuring your gaming experience is as responsive as possible.
• Murideo 8K SIX-G Pattern Generator: Used to stress-test resolution, HDR performance, and bandwidth capabilities.
• Klein K10-A Colorimeter: One of the fastest and most precise tools in the industry for measuring luminance and color volume.

Beyond the technical lab stats, we believe in 'real-world' testing. Our editors spend extended periods living with these devices, watching a variety of streaming content, movies, and putting consoles like the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 through their paces. We replicate exactly how a consumer would use the product in their own living room.

Why Trust Our Reviews?

Independence is the cornerstone of our editorial policy. Manufacturers do not have any input, control, or influence over our testing procedures or our final verdicts. Our reviews are entirely unbiased, based solely on performance data and our subjective experience with each model.

Expert Buying Guides

While individual reviews provide the deep dive you need, navigating the vast array of available models can be daunting. We recommend starting with our curated TV buying guides. These resources aggregate our testing data to highlight the best performers across various budgets and categories, ensuring you find the right screen for your specific needs.

We have a global perspective, with dedicated editors and testing hubs across the U.S., UK, and Australia. If you have questions about a specific model that hasn't been covered yet, feel free to reach out to our team.
