Amazon has officially shuttered its long-standing Fire Tablet brand, ending the decade-long era of its specialized Fire OS. In a major strategic pivot, the retail giant has announced a brand-new series of high-performance tablets that run on a customized version of Android. This transition signifies a move away from the closed, ad-supported ecosystem that defined the Fire tablets, aiming for a more premium market positioning.

The Rise of Alexa+ and Enhanced AI Integration

Central to the new lineup is the introduction of 'Alexa+,' an AI-powered assistant that acts as a persistent, system-level widget. Unlike previous voice-activated iterations, Alexa+ sits in the bottom right corner of the screen, capable of visual analysis. It can interpret on-screen content, such as identifying plants in photos or assisting with complex productivity tasks, marking a significant step forward in device intelligence.

Notable Hardware and Software Features

One of the most anticipated additions is the new 'Kindle Mode.' By simply opening the Kindle app, the tablet intelligently silences all non-essential notifications, mutes color saturation, and adjusts display settings to mimic the comfortable viewing experience of dedicated E-ink e-readers.

The New Product Lineup

The company is launching five distinct models tailored for different demographics:

  • Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro: The flagship model featuring a 12-inch 120Hz display with a 3:2 aspect ratio, powered by a 4nm 8-core processor and up to 16GB of RAM. An optional nanomatte display option, developed in partnership with Corning, provides superior glare reduction without sacrificing contrast.
  • Amazon Alexa Tablet 11: Focused on multimedia, this model sports a 2.5K display in a 16:10 aspect ratio, optimized for film and series consumption.
  • Amazon Alexa Tablet 8: A portable 8.7-inch device aimed at general utility and portability.
  • Amazon Kids Tablets (8.7-inch and 11-inch): These kid-centric devices offer the same core performance while providing robust parental controls and durable, franchise-themed bumper cases.

Market Availability and Pricing

The new tablets are scheduled to hit the U.S., Mexico, and Canada on October 14, 2026, followed by a European rollout in the UK, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain on October 19. While these new models feature more premium materials, they also arrive at higher price points than the outgoing Fire generation, reflecting both inflation and the shift toward more advanced hardware components. The 12 Pro starts at $499.99, while the smaller 8-inch model starts at $229.99.
